Why use heat pipe design for LED high bay lights?

You may notice TEK's High Power Series LED high bay lights indicate we use copper heat pipe designed heat sink for thermal management. You may got a question, most of LED high bay lights use aluminium heat sink in the markets, why you use heat pipe technology for your high power LED high bay lights?

Let's learn about Heat Piple 

A Heat Pipe is a heat-transfer devise that combines the priciples of both thermal conductivity and phase transition to efficiently manage the transfer of heat between two solid interfaces.

 

The Principle

Heat pipes typically have 3 sections: an evaporator section (heat input/source), adiabatic (or transport) section and a condenser section (heat output/sink). 

From the picture, you can see 4 copper tubes conbine with aluminum heat sink. Copper tube heat pipes transfer heat from the heat source light-emitting diodes to the solide aluminium heat sink over relatively long distances through the latent heat of vaporization of a working fluid.

The Purpose: Lower junction temperature, extend LED's Lifespan

Now, today we use heat pipe technology on our LED high bay lights. Heat pipes have an extremely effective high thermal conductivity. Thaditional aluminum radiator have a thermal conductivity of 250W/m.K. Heat pipe have a transfer rate over 200 times of the aluminium heat sink, the thermal conductivity is 5,000 W/m•K. Yes, heat pipe are used extensively in spacecraft, engine cooling and air conditioning in past 20 to 30years. Now, today we use heat pipe technology on our LED high bay lights.

The Result: Lamp bead temperature 75.7℃
